„At the Bau 2005 we are putting the focus on two products which are of particular interest for private building owners,“ says Günter Winnerl, Segment Manager Building at Bayer Sheet Europe. The company presents the Makrolon® multi UV 6-layer and the Makrolon® multi UV IQ-Relax sheet, two polycarbonate sheets that meet the highest requirements and create a pleasant indoor temperature in winter gardens, sun rooms, or closed porches. „High energy costs have triggered the demand for high-quality construction materials. With the two sheet types, we meet this new demand, as the sheets contribute to minimize energy consumption and save costs,“ says Winnerl.

With its outstanding thermal insulation properties, the Makrolon® multi UV 6-layer sheet is particularly suited for winter gardens, sun rooms, greenhouses, shed glazing, and large-size roofing. Compared to conventional sheets of the same thickness, the thermal insulation with the Makrolon® multi UV 6-layer sheet is up to 25% higher. Installed in a winter garden, for example, this corresponds to savings of about 5 liters heating oil or 5.5 cubic meters natural gas (gaseous) per square meter and year.

High impact resistance and low weight are the other properties that make the material an ideal choice for large-surface constructions, where a massive supporting substructure is not desired.

With the new Makrolon® multi UV IQ-Relax generation Bayer Sheet Europe adds another polycarbonate sheet to its successful i-LINE. Makrolon® multi UV IQ-Relax is a sheet that reflects most of the infrared portion of the sunlight on sunny days, thus reducing the heat buildup indoors. „We think that the new IQ-Relax sheet is bound to be a success, because compared to other, conventional products on the market, the IQ-Relax polycarbonate sheet reduces the heat from the total energy transmission by 50 percent, while letting through a high amount of light,“ says Winnerl.
