A monumental light installation by the Stuttgart artist rosalie will premiere at the anniversary celebration "Twenty years Center for Media and Art | Karlsruhe" on October 9th, 2009. The gigantic light composition "CHROMA-LUX" in the foyer of the Center for Media and Art (ZKM) is part of the anniversary exhibit "IMAGINING MEDIA@ZKM". The guests at the anniversary celebration "20 years ZKM | Karlsruhe" can expect a visual world premiere with "CELLULARIUM", an audio-visual presentation for sound dome and light (2009). Peter Weibel's idea of „molecular music" consists of a light composition by rosalie and music by Ludger Brümmer. The audio-visual installation is based on an automatic system consisting of individual cells that adjusts to changing conditions. A special version of this type of automatic system is John Conway's „Game of Life" that made it possible to simulate the development of populations. The artist rosalie has used the algorithms from these processes, which are similar to growing cell structures, as the basis for artistic sequences of light, images, and colors. On a wall measuring 9.25 meter high and 27 meters long, computer-controlled lighting units create images that appear to be three-dimensional. The prompt delivery of the polycarbonate material for the installation by the manufacturer Bayer Sheet Europe gave the artist and the museum staff enough time to program the sophisticated light installation. The guests of the anniversary celebration, who include personalities from the arts, business, and politics, can look forward to a spectacular evening. The imposing interplay of light, colors and rhythm creates an audio-visual experience that is bound to fascinate all of the future visitors of ZKM | Karlsruhe.
